For the 2009/2010 school year Palo Verde Unified School District is suggesting 2 large changes that will effect our children. The first is closing Blythe Middle School. They proposed for all 6th,7th and 8th grade students will be re-routed to area elementary schools. Placing K-5 with middle school children is controversial to say the least. Dr. Jensen himself stated that if the district were to incorporate this system they would have to segregate the students from the elementary aged children. If the superintendent recognizes the potential for problems then why is this suggestion even on the table In addition to this proposal there will also be a cut for the Kindergartners. Classes for incoming Kindergarten will be reduced to half day. This will only allow for approximately 2 hours of instruction per day. Kindergarten is not a daycare service. This is the age where children are given the fundamentals for their elementary education. Sending a child to first grade without the tools necessary to learn is unacceptable.
