The Putney Road Safety Committee, a group of concerned Parents and Citizens, was formed to address concerns around increasing traffic in the area and the risk it creates to our children as they commute to and from school. Reducing traffic congestion, making drivers more aware and encouraging non-local traffic to avoid using Putney as a 'rat-run' is one way this can be achieved.

When completed the new development at Putney Hill will see an additional 900 units. This will potentially increase the pedestrian and school based traffic and taking action as outlined below will help to address these issues. As a community based group, we are asking for support on the following proposals.

This petition will be tabled at various agencies, including but not limited to:

* City of Ryde Council

* Roads and Maritime Services

* Other various agencies and stakeholders as required after making initial representations

The proposals:

A) Investigate with a view to expand the signed 40km/hr School zone to include both Putney Public School and St Charles as one big school zone.  This would make Charles Street, Frederick Street and extended parts of Morrison Road all 40km/hr during School Zone times.  Streets within this 'square' would also be part of the 40km/hr School Zone area.

B) Review existing signage with a view to improve School Zone signage and Children Crossing signage on major roads and thoroughfares

C) Investigate solutions with respect to the intersection of Acacia St / Morrison Rd and Parry Street, with a possibility being a no right turn from Parry St during School Zone Times

D) Increase number of pedestrian crossings to encourage walking. Proposed crossings on:

         Acacia and Parry Streets,
         Potts and Frederick Streets,
         Frederick and Henry Streets

E) Investigate the possibility of making the Putney precinct a 40km/hr zone to discourage the 'rat-run' and improve overall safety for all residents of the area.
