Name: Michael Covarrubias on Mar 4, 2009Position: 01Department: EnglishComments: These fees effectively shrink my already small stipend. Knowing what the fees cover and provide would be only the first step to allowing the graduate students decide if the fee is a reasonable amount. The university must be willing to take part in such a dialogue.Flag

Name: Joshua David Prenosil on Mar 4, 2009Position: 01Department: EnglishComments: Peer institutions charge their graduate students half of what Purdue charges each semester ... per year! The exorbitant fees are a deterrent for the matriculation of talented, burgeoning scholars. $1500 is a hefty bill for someone who only earns $13,000 every year.Flag

Name: Alexander Camarota on Mar 4, 2009Position: 01Department: EnglishComments: The grad fees are unfair and unethical. When I was told I was admitted to Purdue with a full TAship, I was not told I would end up paying over 1500$ a year in hidden fees. Consider that the average English TA is only paid 12,000$ a year. That is below poverty level, and the nature of our work is so much that we cannot get additional jobs to supplement our income during the school year. Certainly this is out of step with other major universities. If Purdue wants to compete with the big guys, they need to offer up the same benefits.Flag

Name: Mira Bekar on Mar 5, 2009Position: 01Department: English/ESLComments: For international students the fees are even higher than for domestic students. It is really hard to cover all the monthly expenses, on the top of that are the fees and on the top of that costs for BOOKS.Flag

Name: Mario Chard on Mar 5, 2009Position: 01Department: EnglishComments: I hope that President Cordova and the Trustees will keep their word in regard to the implementation of the new Strategic Plan, especially in regards to the financial issues that affect graduate students the most--those students who bear a significant burden of the instruction offered at Purdue. If they want the best at Purdue, they must find a way to keep these outrageous fees from increasing, and--at the very least--review their necessity in the first place.Flag
