Dear American Media, The events of the past week in Aurora, CO, and the smiliar shootings which seem to happen now on a disturbingly regular basis throughout the United States are painful enough in themselves. To have you, the news media, display the smiling portrait of the murderer in each instance, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week for several days after each shooting only compounds the tragedy and intensifies the agony. And, further more, it encourages more of the same malevolent, attention-seeking behavior from other unstable individuals. We, the American people, implore you to do the right thing. Stop giving evil celebrity status and a platform for magnifying these disasters. Stop publishing the perpatrator's picture, name, and the otherwise worthless (but ratings-grabbing "sensational") details of his life and his intentions to inflict harm. When the public gets used to someone being completely ignored (by all but the justice system) for pulling these "stunts", there will be a tremendous drop in incentive for doing them and the country will be better off for it.
