Dog fighting is where dogs are bred to fight, are used specifically for fighting, and only vicious dogs are bred, and 'calm' dogs are retired, in an attempt to breed only fighting dogs, and for the calm tempered dogs to die out. But is it going too far? Dogs used for fighting are legally bound to their owners. Shouldn't dog fighting be punished as animal cruelty? The owner of a dog is responsible for it. If the owner is allowing their dog to participate in these actions, then shouldn't they be charged for animal abuse? Dog fights last until one participant is unable or unwilling to continue fighting. Most injuries to dogs from dog fights are often severe, and are also commonly fatal. The owner is then responsible for the death of an innocent animal used for sport. Dogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight. So many animals are sacrificed for the sport of it, and fines for dog fighting are often little for the profit made by dog fight hosts, dog owners, and spectators.
