Petition to “Punch Out Mayor Tory Taxes”

To Mayor John Tory and Members of Toronto City Council:

The residents of Toronto already pay enough fees and taxes.

In the case of services like garbage collection, taxpayers are paying almost twice as much as they used to pay, while the cost of collecting the garbage is significantly lower than previous years.

Mayor John Tory’s consideration of new taxes and fees violates his principle campaign promise to keep property taxes at or below the rate of inflation.

Many of the proposed new taxes punish people who work, own homes or drive cars. While residents do not mind paying their fair share to fund core city services, they are fed up with having to pay for the never-ending spending agenda at Toronto City Hall. Residents have reached their breaking point and cannot afford any more taxes.

Taxes like the Motor Vehicle Registration Tax, Parking Tax, Roof Tax, Hotel Room Tax, Road Toll Tax, Municipal Sales Tax, Municipal Income Tax, Commercial and Industrial Taxes are not taxes that we want to see implemented.

Therefore, we the undersigned petition the Mayor of Toronto and City Council to immediately scrap the plan to consider any new revenue tools or taxes.
