Each year it cost the UK economy £1 billion pounds due to the consequences of late or undiagnosed dyslexia. According to the dyslexia institute (publicly known as Dyslexia Action) who published these findings they also stated that even more money is lost, due to the wasted potential of some individuals affected. Yet it cost only £36 million pounds each year to train and supply each primary school with a specialist teacher, who will be able to identify and assist children with dyslexia. Dyslexia affects an estimated 10% of the population, In Britain only 5.8% of people are aware of having the condition and yet up to 75% of these people were not diagnosed until over the age of 21 years old. So why with all the awareness of dyslexia in the last decades, which were brought about by charities and organizations, such as the Dyslexia Action and The British Dyslexic Association has the education system still failed to diagnose these individuals
