WrightAs a dedicated public transit user for many years, i am astounded at the lack of foresight, care, and intelligence that the General Assembly of Pennsylvania has shown towards the critical issue of adequate funding for public transit in Pennsylvania. Furthermore as a current resident of Philadelphia and avid user of SEPTA, I am moreover amazed at the total disregard of the state towards its major city. A city which is simultaneously on the virge of a great new life and a rapid and painful death. I see such grand potential for this city and it's population, we are here on the streets, working everyday to make it a better city, by planting trees, cleaning and clearing away the neglects space, and creating a community of free peoples that may live on in perpetuity. The people of Philadelphia beseech our elected officials to give us a chance to achieve our goals by allowing us simply to get around! The benefits of well planned and funded public transportation are an enourmous, long-lasting basis on which we may achieve a greatness that has for too long evaded the promises and prayers of the founding of this grand city. I call to you all to hear the words of our great historical founder: "And Thou Philadelphia the virgin settlement of this province named before thou wert born, what care, what service, what travail have there been to bring thee forth and preserve thee from such as would abuse and defile thee. 264 David HouckI depend on SEPTA and I have trouble covering monthly expenses as it is. Many in the city are worse off than I am. The proposed fare increases and service cuts are the exact opposite of what we should be doing to increase energy conservation and reduce trandsportation-related pollution.

268 AnonymousPeople are not always able to find the jobs they want to beable to afford vehicles. Most jobs availiable are service jobs or related and don't require that much education. And then there are people who can't afford vehicles because the are handicapped or very elderly. These people have to go to appointments, fun activities and go to shift jobs at various times. Also, we want public transportation availiable at various times and travelling to various places for tourists. Tours don't go everywhere. We should all support public transportation because it's better for the environment, anyhow.

Public transportation is far better for the environment, and many people who do not own cars, especially the poor, can not live without it. We already have the some of the highest fares in America; how can we pay even more and have less service?!?

I am not personally affected that much anymore because I bought a bike for transportation now, but really, I don't see how this helps at all. It is only going to make the situation worse.

274 catherine maiseysept should be available to every philadelphia citizen at a reasonable fare...so many factors play a part in public transit, such as cutting down the amount of cars on the roads...to being a source of freedom for the elderly. we need to work this situation out...for everyone involved
275 Lester TomeAs a college student, public transportation allows me to commute between home and school. Without it, I would be forced to buy a car and spend money that I don't have in gas, insurance, parking, etc. Public transportation help us to reduce pollution.
276 AnonymousLack of reliable, affordable public transit shows a blatant, unethical disregard for the most vulnerable of our fellow human beings -- the elderly, the poor, the disabled. It's time to _break the cycle_ by providing adequate funding to SEPTA and by insisting that SEPTA run efficiently without raising fares or cutting back services. These actions will bring business to our city, demonstrate our compassion for our fellow citizens, help end poverty and violence by enabling lower-income citizens to obtain a good education, and benefit our health by cutting back on pollution-producing automobiles. 279 AnonymousPlease do what you can to keep up this service in the Philadelphia region. Limiting bus and train service and raising fairs will thwart efforts to improve life in Philadelphia and its vacinity. The increase of traffic on I-95, I-76, and I-676 will slow everyone down and most likely result in more accidents due to frustrated drivers...some of whom are already angry behind the wheel. I believe the state needs to step in somehow to avoid further handicap to an otherwise thriving city.
280 David BoormanI find it rather curious that legislatures consider it appropriate that the highways and roads are funded by tax dollars, but then think that public transit should not be publicly funded. On a per capita basis, far more of my tax dollars go to fund rural PA roads that I will never use than would ever go to fund public transportation. Additionally, if everyone who took public transportation now started to drive their cars instead, rush hour traffic could *easily* triple. (Look at LA's transportation situation to see what happens without an adequate public transportation system, if you don't believe me.) Lots of us do have the option of whether to drive or take public transit, including myself. If the proposed increases go through, it will be cheaper for me to drive, in addition to being quicker and more convenient. It is ridiculous that we have to go through this *every single year*. There needs to be *dedicated* (i.e. dependable and reliable) funding of the public transit systems. You are playing with fire, here. If Philadelphia and Pittsburg go down hill, Pennsylvania goes down with it.

Flynn, IIIDear Legislators: The roads in formerly semi-rural Chester County (Berwyn, Malvern), where I have lived since 1967, are now choked with cars and monstorously large SUVs many times of the day. As a result, among several other negative impacts, our air is becoming harder to breath, and our businesses and employess are earning less as people stay home to avoid the mass congestion. Think of how much more pleasant it would be to go to the King of Prussia Mall on a monorail that ran from one or two of the local regional SEPTA train lines. How much more revenue would the stores there generate? This area of Pennsylvania needs more, not less, public transportation! Sincerely, Thomas Flynn
282 AnonymousI can't believe this! SEPTA is already the most horrid mass transit system on the east coast! I should of moved to Manhattan rather than this City. This will be forcing the residents to move out if this happens, CRAZINESS. Oooh, but the City can spend stupid money like providing rainbow signs in the gaybourhood, gee that was soo important & well spent money, NOT!!!!!

Cutting transit service will most likely cause a number of consequences which may eventually lead us to look to moving our Phila area operations to places where transit works (Northern NJ, Seattle)
