Name: Krista Hinz on May 21, 2006Comments: Western, because of its reputation in psychology is my first choice in further education. I know of a student who did not accept offers from Ivy League schools because he, as I, hold Western in high esteem for its contributions to the field, and also to the professionals it produces. I feel further investigation is needed before two programs are cut from a University that embodies stellar presence and presentation in the field of psychology.Flag

Name: Kelly Pahl on May 21, 2006Comments: While the Country may be undergoing economic uncertainty and budget cuts are inevitable, cutting these particular programs will only hurt WMU, current and prospective students, the Kalamazoo community, the state of Michigan, and the field of Psychology. Keep the doors to opportunity open!!Flag

Name: William L. Holcomb, Ph.D., BCBA on May 22, 2006Comments: I cannot believe that it is in the best interest of the University, the students, or (especially) the community at large to discontinue the doctoral program in clinical psychology or the master'sprogram for industrial psychology. These are two areas where competent clinicians are desparately needed.Flag

Name: Manny A. Rodriguez on May 22, 2006Comments: The WMU I/O program helped me grow as a graduate student, and I was not even a student of WMU. As a graduate student in Florida, I was in constant communication with the community in WMU's I/O program. They provide multiple practical research that I was able to apply in my own studies and practice. It would be a mistaken to allow such a valuable program be eliminated. This program is not just valuable to WMU but to other major universities and employers.Flag

Name: Carl Merle Johnson on May 22, 2006Comments: As an alumnus of WMU and a faculty member of CMU I am gravely disappointed to learn that Western is considering the closure of its clinical psychology and I/O psychology programs. I believe it was a mistake to close the school psychology program with so many jobs available for school psychologists in the state of Michigan--a state with high umemployment as well as a critical need for school psychologists.Flag

Name: Peter Dams, Ph.D. on May 22, 2006Comments: Given the excellent scoring received by these programs from WMU evaluators, and given the fact that not everyone wants to pursue a Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis in order to practice I/O psychology, I believe that keeping these programs will be a benefit to this community, to Western, and to the various professions. Many for profit and nonprofit organizations in the Kalamazoo area benefit from having access to students in these programs.Flag
