On behalf of all my fellow Canadians with psoriasis, we would like to have the funding availible each year to the research of psoriasis, increased; if such funding does exsist. We have followed suit with our American friends and have started a letter writing campaign. Hopefully it will not fall to the way side.
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated disease for which there is no cure. Psoriasis—and the psoriatic arthritis that accompanies it in upward of 30 percent of cases—can cause severe pain and severely reduce a person's quality of life. A study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health(U.S.A.) found that psoriasis can cause as much physical and mental disability as other major diseases including cancer, arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and depression. Psoriasis affects millions of Canadians. It does not discriminate age, gender, race or religion.
The best hope for the psoriasis community is increased federal research funding for better treatments and a cure. |
