Name: Robert Gabriel on Apr 11, 2008State: TXCountry: USComments: Had one credit card account with Providian for years, always paid on time...then after Washington Mutual took over the account, my interest rate suddenly doubled to 28% without warning. My credit score was/is in good standing, so I feel that there is no just reason for the ridiculously excessive apr being thrust upon me like that. Also, I have a second Washington Mutual credit card account that I don't even want to have. I went into one of their branches to open a checking account. During that process, the clerk asked if I wanted a credit card with what sounded like superior terms. Since I have outstanding credit being charged at high rates, I was interested in transfering those balances over to a lower rate. I clearly told the clerk that I was only interested in signing up for the card if I would be approved for $25,000 or more. He ran a check and clearly told me that I was approved for $30,000. So, I went ahead and signed up for the card. Yet, when the card came in the mail a couple of weeks later, it only gave me an available balance of $1,000. I called the branch, then the WaMu coprorate office and asked to have my available balance raised to $30,000. I was told that they were experiencing a computer glitch the day I opened my account that told every applicant that they were approved for $30,000. So I asked for them to rectify the problem that they created...and at that point, I was rudely dismissed by series of roughly 6 different supposed WaMu supervisors. Each would freely admit that WaMu was responsible for the misinformation provided to me which lead me to open an account that I only wanted under certain terms, but they did absolutely nothing to compensate for their error.Flag

Name: Bonnie Postorino on Apr 20, 2008State:Country: USComments: My daughter & I are currently victims of the Providian scam, and are being brought to court by them for a debt which I personally paid off & now they are trying to have my daughter pay off the same debt again as we were both holders of the same card. I am currently paying my bank over $100.00 dollars to retrieve statements from 2004 as proof of payment. How can these people get away with with this "legal" act of theftFlag
