Name: Christine Donayre on Jun 16, 2009Comments: I am appalled at the treatment of indigenous communities in the Amazon who are protecting their ancestral lands. Their protests did not warranted the following military crackdown & subsequent killing of at least 33 members of their communities that your government approved. Indigenous communities demand to be consulted about any exploration or development their land & expect the Peruvian government not to act without their consent. I support another national day of action in Peru and hope that your Government knows that people around the world are monitoring the situation.Flag

Name: Jeff Johnson on Jun 16, 2009Comments: I am shocked at the way protesters have been treated and the way the Peruvian authorities have handled this situation. It is a sad day when the interested of oil and gas companies are placed ahead of indigenous communities and the lands that they rightfully look after. As someone who has travelled throughout Peru for almost 6 months I am outraged and saddened by the deaths of peaceful protesters. Jeff JohnsonFlag

Name: Stephen Batchelor on Jun 16, 2009Comments: "We call upon the Government of Peru and President Alan Garcia to respect the inalienable rights of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon to their ancestral land. We urge President Garcia to ensure that decrees 1090 and 1064 are repealed and not just suspended. We call for the reopening of community radio in Bagua, the assistance to residents of Bagua who are suffering a social crisis due to the unrest in Peru. We call on the Peruvian Government to stop the harrassment and arrests of indigenous leaders, specifically leaders from the AIDESEP, the union of indigenous organisations who are leading the fight for indigenous land rights in Peru. We support peace and unity in Peru."Flag
