Until a recent Kentucky Supreme Court decision (2007), Kentucky Teacher Retirement Benefits have been protected as non-marital assets since 1938. Kentucky public school teachers are required to pay into the pension plan. We have no alternative. It is our "social security". Oddly Federal Social Security benefits are protected from being taken by Federal Law. Since this decision has been rendered, the Kentucky General Assembly has not made an effort to make the needed changes to legislation to again make teacher retirement a protected asset. We have participated in the belief we would be taken care of at the end of our professional careers. This is a promise made by the Commonwealth as a condition of employment that has been broken. Please sign this petition to support a change in current legislation to again provide teacher retirement benefits protected status. Let your legislator know you support teachers by signing.
