Name: Mr And Mrs Goodwin on Mar 3, 2009Comments: We are at the moment still in dispute with a builder who does not fulfil his promises nor sticks to the contract. We are not even sure if we are legally connected to utilities. It has been almost eighteen months since we put a deposit down. We have no confidence in solicitors given the power that the builder seems to have in the Mugla region.Flag

But one piece of advice I give to people looking to buy in Turkey is dont do anything in Turkey that you would not do in the UK IE always use a lawyer and DONT BY A HOUSE OFF OF A WAITER IN A RESTERUNT OR BAR1Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 6, 2009Comments: Only deal with agents who people you know recommend and have had trustworthy dealings with. Watch out for the maintenance, you can get ripped off and find that you are being charged far more than fellow Turkish residents living in the same complex. You might get a good deal on the sale but long term they will get it back through the maintenance and it can be difficult to go elsewhere and get mixed nationalities to pay a Turkish company for maintenance and repairs. This is a area that needs regulation.Flag

Name: Kevin Smith on Mar 6, 2009Comments: We have a ongoing issue where the villas on our complex have had a hold put on them. The original builder went bankrupt and the bank foreclosed and sold the villas on to a developer. The developer then sold all the villas on to europeans. The original builder then took the develper to court to claim. He failed now has turned his attention to us owners and we all have had to pay for solicitors, niotary costs etc. We all have the Tapus and paid in good faith. How we can be held accountable i just dont know. Its certainly hazed my view on buying property in turkey if we lose the casde and our villas it will be downright scandalous.Flag

I have actually thought of writing a book listing all the pitfalls, maybe one day when I have the time! New buyers please, do your homework.Flag

Name: KEVIN AND LORRAINE on Mar 7, 2009Comments: regulations need to be simplyfied. builders should be forced to pay a bond to a regulator ie the tax office and if the builder does not fulfil his side of the contract the buyer should be reinbursed out of this bondFlag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 7, 2009Comments: We bought in Kalkan 6 years ago & luckily the process went smothly, but where do you go to get sound advice on any topic in Turkey Even if you pay a professional it seems to us that the laws (especialy when applied to a foriegn national) is extremly flexible to the point of you get what you get take it or leave it.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 7, 2009Comments: we purchased in altinkum 2 yeasrs ago and Although we personnaly had no problems from the builder /agent /solicitors every builder agent appears to have different procedures there needs to be a set standard of procedure which would simplyfy things we would all know where we stand from day 1 However i do think this would be difficult to implement as just like the ukFlag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 7, 2009Comments: We purchased a property in a small village near Bodrum 1year ok and were told we would be able to obtain Tapu. however since all the zoning for this area has not been completed we are now told that we must wait another year, however we have taken out an Ipotek on the property which makes it impossible for the seller to sell or obtain any credit on the proberty without paying us the full amout back. But this is still not satisfactory and this matter needs to be dealt with quickly as foreigners are now loath to purchase because of all the problems/Flag

Name: David Arscott on Mar 7, 2009Comments: Yes,we are looking to sell our house & are having (fortunately surmountbale)problems because the builder obtained permission to build on a percentage of the land which at that time was not correct. This can be put right by applying for the full size of the house as an extension. However, there have been a number of other problems & we would advise that no reader buys a house in Turkey without spending at least a year here first, gathering information.Granted 90 percent of that which you are told will be untruths & half truths, you have to filter it as you go.!! The builder has criticised me for trying to ruin his business, all I am doing is telling the truth.Only one more thing, there are too many anonymous signatures on this petition, put up or shut upp folks !!Flag

It is virtually impossible to get consistent information and when we did use legal professionals it still not not give us a warm feeling.Flag
