We the undersigned strongly disagree with the UKBA's blanket revocation of London Metropolitan University's licence to recruit overseas students as it is punishing genuine students for failings caused by no fault of their own. We further believe that this action by the UKBA has the potential to damage the reputation of Britain's education economy.

A spokesperson for VitaStudent.com commented: “It seems that in this instance the UKBA has used a sledge hammer to crack a relatively small walnut.

“We firmly believe that innocent students who want to come and study in the UK should not be penalised because of failings by their university.

“Whilst we can appreciate that there were some deficiencies by LMU, UKBA’s one-size-fits-all approach has the potential to not only put the futures of 2,000 overseas students in jeopardy, but also discourage other foreign students from studying in the UK.

“Look at it from the point of a prospective overseas student, would you really want to invest your time, effort and a considerably amount money going to a British university if the country in question had a track record of deporting students?

“The UK has a fantastic knowledge economy with people from all over the globe coming to Britain purely to experience our world class universities. Do we really want to turn our back on the £12.5bn foreign students invest in the UK?”
