Name: Margaret E Haynes on May 5, 2012Comments: I am a huge supporter of the Arboretum. But, plans should have been approved and in place prior to any additions to the property (like the Children's Garden). Off-site parking with shuttles makes much more sense than taking away fields and grasses for concrete and gas fumes.Flag

Name: Dennis Haden on May 5, 2012Comments: When the Degolyer family donated the property to the city of Dallas I certainly don't feel they would have done so knowing the two headed monster that has been cultavated on the shores of whiterock lake. Kudos to those who have made this facility a beautiful point of destination, however just because this cash cow has overgrown it's boundries doesn't give the city the right to take winfrey point and turn it into a 400 space parking garage at probably $10.00 a car. Face it the city of Dallas screwed up as usual lettting Jerry world go to Arlington instead we've kept our lucrative money pit farmers market. Maybe the Arboritium should relocate there's plenty of seeds to start growing with and a whole bunch of empty buildings that could become parking not to mention a lot of human fertelizer. Enough with the greed because of mediocre city management........Flag

Name: Phillip Dryden on May 5, 2012Comments: Most cities in the U.S. already have about three parking spaces per car in the city. The world needs more nature, not more parking. All I see here is an attempt to increase revenue at the Arboretum by increasing the volume of visitors it can recieve. It's downright dispicable and I expect better from the Arboretum, which has historically been very environmentally and conservation-conscious.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 5, 2012Comments: While I agree with the "Protect (White Rock Lake) Winfrey Point Petition" to prevent future commercial - institutional development of the natural wetlands, I am pessimistic - I believe the City of Dallas will eventually, someday build whatever it wants to where ever it chooses, protest-be-damned. I just believe in the ultimate power of city governance over minority viewpoints. I don't like it, but that's what "majority rules" means in a democracy. In this case, the "majority" viewpoint are the silent majority of Dallas citizens who are basicaslly apathetic and will allow the Dallas City Council to do whatever they want.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 5, 2012Comments: Sacrificing any part of the park for Arboretum parking is outrageous. What about the people who want to spend some of their weekend at Winfrey Point and perhaps play ball? I love and support the Arboretum, but this arrogance makes me angry. Look elsewhere!Flag

Name: Cheri Minks on May 5, 2012Comments: It is very disturbing that the Arboretum and the City of Dallas Parks Dept. have apparently (sneakily?) conspired to destroy precious wild life habitat which is the flora and fauna most of us prize at the lake, and put the eco system surrounding White Rock Lake at further risk by the razing of the area on and around Winfrey Point and covering it with paving for parking autos that will all leach toxins into the lake and ground water and the additonal traffic will bring more exhaust into the area to the detriment of the air quality that effects those who live right there and all of us who walk, bike, and run for our health.. in the area - to say nothing of destroying the view. All of this destruction of Nature that we need so desperately to care for as it is so necessary to our quality of life and reducing stress. Our green spaces are precious not parking lots.Flag
