Comments: since we pay taxes to keep all areas of White rock updated What revenue do the citizens of Dallas receive from the Dallas Arboretum?

Comments: I've held a family membership at at the Dallas Arboretum for over 7 years now, and if you have the money, it's a great time. I am also a homeowner in the adjacent Forest Hills so as a family, we have enjoyed the picnics and the concerts, and we were really looking forward to the Chilhuly exhibit. In fact, I have supported the Arboretum in all their plans in the past, but I will no more. Taking over Winfrey Point—a city owned place where families from every walk of life can picnic for free, where kids stay out of trouble by running around the baseball diamonds, where everyone can be together as a community—is short sighted. Lying to Dallas taxpayers about your plans to eventually pave paradise for your "Disney World growth plans", well, that's evil. Please "don't pave paradise to put up a parking lot." Especially when there are parking lots available on Ferguson and Garland roads that could be shuttled or valeted to. http://savewinfreypoint.com/?p=109 http://savewinfreypoint.com/?p=109 http://savewinfreypoint.com/?p=109

Comments: Stewardship of diminishing habitat such as the now rare Texas Blackland Prairie is a responsibility and honor, and I am disappointed to see how poorly City of Dallas, Park Dept and Dallas Arboretum have carried out their responsibility in this matter at Winfrey Point.

Comments: There will certainly be enough parking if they build upwards on their own parking lot at the Arboretum. Instead of a multi-storied one wrecking the grasslands at Winfrey point. Build upwards on the existing parking lot.

Comments: When we moved to Dallas in March '58, we lived just a few blocks from Winfrey Point. We were sooooo delighted to have such a beautiful wooded area & lake to enjoy any day of the week, and we did enjoy it MANY TIMES. Our young girls loved to go there to run & play & to feed the ducks!!! What a joyful time for them, & they remember it well! Our girls are grown now, but they still enjoy the lake, using that area for picnics, & riding around the lake, which my husband has done for many years!!! What imprssed us most is that when we used to come through Dallas on our way to CO, when we were teenagers, was that there was a GORGEOUS LAKE in the middle of the city, with lush trees surrounding it, for everyone to enjoy! We could not help but be aware of the lake & lush trees when we moved here years later. We were used to many thousands of trees in Memphis, our hometown, but the scarity of trees here in Dallas, compared to Memphis. BUT, there was beautiful White Rock Lake there for us to enjoy, right there in our neighborhood on Forest Hills Blvd!!!! Our daughters held our 50th Anniversary party there at Winfrey Point several years ago, & many remarked "what a BEAUTIFUL PLACE for a party!!". We will always have fond remembrances of that evening! It would be a sin, to us, for the city to tear down the spot that God had created for all to enjoy, & to turn it into a concrete jungle to be used occasionally by others who do not live in the area, & only visit on special occasions during the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE A POLL OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO SEE JUST HOW MANY LIVE IN THE WHITE ROCK AREA!!!!!!!!!!! JUST ONE, so why should that person determine what should be done to suit the Arboretium crowd?????? BESIDES, a new parking lot was recently completed on Garland Rd!! Double deck the lots within the grounds of the Arboretium instead. People who visit & find parking unavailable for that particular day, could return another day!!!!! I only wish that I was able to attend the City Hall meetings & speak, from the heart just as many have recently done, concerning this abuse of power of the City Council !!! They should be ASHAMED, & PUT OUT OF OFFICE OVER THIS!!!!!!! I wonder how many of them REALLY heard the pleas of the concerned citizens, & IF they could repeat what was said to them???? I'm sure that they have already made up their minds, which is evident from the exposed lies about them!!!

Comments: I have lived in this neighborhood for 52 years. I have seen the progress the city has made around the lake over the last 10 years to preserve our open lands, to bring back natural plants and wildlife. I am completely against any building at Winfrey Point. Please note that I am a memeber of the Arboretum and love it, but the natural area of Winfrey Point should remain that - a natural area. Please count on me to be active in stopping any building or destruction of Winfrey Point. Thanks you. CIndy Lewin

Comments: The City Council members who support the "parking lot" at Winfrey Point are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! True Dallasites work at preserving our history and park areas -- those who only want an entertainment area do not care for the natural beauty of and around the lake. They are poorly representing the citizens!

Comments: I love the Dallas Arboretum but am very concerned about plans to convert prairie habitat and baseball fields into parking lots. Dallas has plenty of parking lots and not so many places for beauty, nature, and play. Let's figure out another option for getting more parking for the Arboretum that does not involve destroying places in Dallas that residents enjoy and love.
