The Dallas Parks Department and the Dallas Arboretum, as good stewards of our park lands, should reconsider the use of protected Blackland prairie grasses around Winfrey point as a parking lot.

While we are supportive of both the parks department and the Dallas Arboretum, we feel they are crossing the line by destroying a protected natural habitat that many volunteers, along with the parks department have previously worked to preserve and protect. This area is home to rare birds, plants and even a bobcat or two. The parks department has received a Texas Land Steward award for their preservation and protection of the Blackland prairie around White Rock Lake. Having to return this award will be an embarrassment to the city of Dallas.

We urge City Council to stop this abuse of our park and prevent the use of Blackland prairie as a parking lot.
