Governor Jerry Brown, I understand that you are planning to repeal key provisions of the Hayden Law that protects shelter animals in order to save the state money. This is wrong.

The Hayden Law protects the hundreds of thousands of dogs, cats and other animals that enter California animal shelters every year by requiring that they be kept alive and available for reclamation or adoption for at least 4-6 days before being killed, and by extending the hours of operation of shelters to allow working families interested in adopting to visit during evenings and weekends.

Thousands of innocent animals should not be killed to alleviate California's budget woes. There are better and more humane solutions to our state's fiscal problems.

*PLEASE NOTE *: After signing this petition, Dog Park Media, the petition's author, will add you to an email list with updates on our campaign to prevent repeal of the law and to advise you on actions you can take to help protect shelter animals. Please, show some compassion in your heart for these unfortunate animals who have been lost or abandoned or too old. We are their only voice they have & we ask you to do the right thing & give them a chance at life !!

Are we that barbaric as a so called humane society that we can rationalize mass murder of innocent animals?

Hi. My name is Yen and I am in favor of keeping feral cats & stray dogs alive in animal shelters. Please stop the inhumane killings of poor innocent animals who have feelings and emotions! Like us, these animals are a blessing from God and they deserve to be love and care for. Please help rescue them from evil shelters and give them love.

Please make pet owners in California be responseable for the welfare of their animals!! BIG fines always work good. More resources to help pet owners might be a good idea.....

With this economy several elderly, poor and sick Americans have given up their best friends hopping they would have a better life if they get the chance to be re-adopted. Please give our best friends a chance to live.

Please put an end to kill shelters, or maybe lay a tax on killing animals. An expensive one, so no one will do it. Thank you.

We were under the impression Gov. Jerry Brown was one of the good guys but apparently only when it comes to things he has an interest in. You want to reduce the wait days to death to three...rather than six?.....there shouldn't be wait days at all. None of these animals should be put to death just because they aren't lucky enough to have homes like yours does. Imagine Gov. that you dog got out just by accident. He's probably microchipped but what if there was a mix up at the shelter and no one bother to check for it. You were searching everywhere...and then excited that you finally found the shelter he was brought to..rush over..only to find out that..guess what?..they put him to death the day before..because YOU decided to fix the budget by "saving tens of millions of dollars"...just by killing off some animals you don't know personally. You should be ashamed of what you propose. You say they aren't really adopted in that extra three days anyway...well then get off your butt and change that..be progressive. Make California become the first state that sees to the needs of ALL it's inhabitants..including the four legged. Instead of dragging them back into the dark ages sign bills that give these animals rights to better lives. You should follow the lead of Abraham Lincoln who said "I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being."
