In California, employees have continued to suffer the long term affects that tend to surround Workers' Comp. In many cases, the employers' manage their own Workers' Comp cases, dragging them out and denying coverage. Long term affects of this system can be damning to the employee. In some cases where the injuries tend to be substantial and serious the employee may never be able to return to work again. Instead they become destined to a life on disability, limiting their ability to contribute financially and grow to their full potential. In the case of SB683, the long term affects would fall on the checkbook of the employee not the employer. This bill would limit the type of care an employee can receive after an injury if it is not a direct injury from the accident. This vote will prove to be devastating. As with many employers, companies like Safeway manage their own WC. In some cases treatment for initial injuries were denied until the employee sought out legal assistance. In many instances this was as long as several years. In situations where the employee suffers spinal or nerve injuries that go untreated for long periods there will be radiating affects. Which can afflict the employee with pain and suffering for the rest of their lives. In cases such as these, the employee would be responsible to pay for their care which will directly affect how settlements are awarded and paid. Tell your California Congressman that enough is enough. NO longer should major corporations be able to maintain unsafe work environments, injure their employees and then hand them the bill. Vote no on SB683.
