Your Drinking Water Is At Risk! Property Rights are at Risk! Untried, experimental methods are to be used for development around our drinking-water reservoir, Lake Maumelle. Justices of the Peace in Pulaski Co. will vote Dec. 20th, 2011, on a proposed Maumelle Watershed Zoning Code. That came from Deltic Timber Co., owner of 12,000 acres to be developed in that Watershed. This Code allows 39,000 houses, which would make these rural hillsides the second-largest city in Arkansas. That's Outrageous! The original Watershed Management Plan allowed for some 7,000 houses. Officials claim we're protected by a computer calculation, the Set Evaluation Tool, to direct construction practices of developers and keep pollution out of Lake Maumelle, source for drinking water for 400,000 customers. No house has been built under this standard; we are experiments. The county is gambling this S.E.T. will control pollution. Nobody knows for sure. Petition the Pulaski County Quorum Court to revise the Code before them: * to respect property rights of residents in the Watershed, by grandfathering all into the Code at their current usage, and excluding them from engineering rules applied to new subdivisions; * to control excessive development, by reducing the number of houses allowed at this time to 7,000; and * to follow current law, and review Watershed development every 30 months, and test whether developers are keeping pollution out of the lake, as calculated. Allow more houses only when controls perform as estimated. Sign by Mon. Dec. 19th - vote is Dec. 20. Sponsor: Coalition of Greater Little Rock Neighborhoods, Box 777, Little Rock, AR 72203
