The administration confirmed that Cunningham Woods is finally off the development list. I have carried the weight of this fight for a long time and I am relieved that the woods will remain standing. We must stay vigilant to ensure this decision remains permanent.

We the undersigned assert the academic, ecological, and intrinsic value of Cunningham Woods. As students, staff, faculty, and community members, we recognize the importance of protecting the only remaining natural area within Ring Road.

Therefore, we call on University of Victoria Campus Planning Committee to remove Cunningham Woods from the list of potential building sites listed within the UVic Campus Plan Update 2015.

Seeing this much momentum behind the protection of the woods has been a heavy but necessary reminder of why we started this. It has been a long road and I am drained, yet your commitment keeps me moving forward.

The development and management can not take place without meaningful consultation and enthusiastic consent from local First Nations and Indigenous communities

Having seen these woods shrink from when I was an undergrad (1976-80), please let them remain. These woods are valuable as a rejuvenating space to students stressed by assignments & exams and staff with crowded workloads. There are few spaces so near the lecture halls & laboratories that offer a reminder of the values needing to be protected & connections needing to be nurtured.

As a UVic alumni, the natural space of the campus was one of the most important parts of my experience. Protect them.

This is where I observed owls, woodpeckers, wrens and other native bird species for my vertebrates of bc course at uvic. Don't destroy this precious habitat. It is what makes uvic so special for students and community members and wildlife alike.

Development can happen without complete removal of natural spaces. Please adjust any expansion to include natural spaces in the planning process. Is that not what an environmentally conscious university should be demonstrating?

I strongly oppose this proposed development of Cunningham woods. Such an undertaking, a move on the last forest within the Ring Road, would undermine the image of UVic as a responsible, environmentally conscious campus community. We need to protect this place.

Using sexualized violence as an excuse for building development is disrespectful to sexual assault survivors.

further destruction is not the answer to sexualized violence. engaging with people and educating them on the realities of sexualized violence is the answer to sexualized violence.
