Final supporters
The California Ballot Initiative Process allows any measure to be put to the California electorate regardless of whether the measure would produce a law that is unconstitutional. We respectfully call upon Attorney General Kamala Harris, California Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and California Senate President Kevin De Leon to devise legislation that will protect the civil rights of Californians from proposed unconstitutional ballot measures by implementing a pre-qualification review of all measures to determine their constitutionality. If it is clear that the ballot initiative would result in an unconstitutional law, the ballot measure would not be allowed to move forward.

I have spent the last few days reviewing the stories you have left in the comments and it is clear that many of us feel that our fundamental rights are being treated like a political game. Our legal system should protect the vulnerable rather than allowing unconstitutional measures to reach the ballot. I am preparing a formal packet of these concerns to deliver to the offices of our state leaders to ensure they understand exactly what is at stake for our communities.

Seeing this momentum grow confirms that people are finally tired of seeing our fundamental rights put up for a vote. My own family knows too well what happens when the ballot box is used to strip away basic protections, and your backing gives me real hope that we can change the process for good.

It's about time we get rid of frivolous propositions that waste state money to overturn them later.
Hate and bigotry still seek to erode our freedoms. That this language even is entertained by the initiative process is absurd.
We get a chance at life to live and love without a choice of WHO we love or what destinies the future holds for our lives. No one has or should be given the right to hold anyones fate.
There needs to be some review process, perhaps by a committee of judges for any initiative deemed potentially inappropriate. If you have to allow any petition that someone has paid $200 to file, then what if it was full of offensive words that would not be allowed on public broadcast? There is no limit to the crazy things someone could put on it.
No one should be able to slip a piece of HATE CRIME into any process that is to be considered by registered voters. It is a waste of TAX DOLLARS & VOTERS' PRECIOUS TIME!

This in total nonsense and a clear attempt to construe the purpose an otherwise reasonable ballot initiative. There should indeed be a pre-qualification review to determine constitutionality.
