I am doing a project for my civics class which focuses specifically on creating, changing, eliminating, enforcing, or leveraging a policy. I chose to focus on police brutality due to the fact throughout my 18 years of living I noticed it has always been a problem and is evidently getting worse. My ultimate goals is to write a letter addressing my issue, providing results from a survey I created pertaining to police brutality and the other actions such as this petition and mailing my letter to internal affairs which is the division of a law enforcement that investigates incidents, suspicions of lawbreaking and misconduct of officers. Providing evidence and support with the outcome and results of previous actions will make my letter that much more worth reading and attention grabbing. I believe police should be required to wear body cameras while on duty and any police officer who is accused by, more than 2 witnesses for brutality will be suspended for a period of 30 days without pay only if he is a 1st time offender. A repeated offence should be subjected to the process of the law where the jury decides the fate of the accused officer. Police should be given no special treatment in the court of law. In fact, they should be treated more harshly when sentenced for breaking the trust of the people that bestowed it upon them. Police brutality in America is an increasing problem and actions need to be taken immediately. The police are here to protect & serve not vent their own anger & administer their own personal brand of justice.
