Promote Organic Cotton
Cotton is a demanding crop, used in most clothing. It requires a long frost-free period, a large amount of sunshine, and a lot of water. One cotton shirt weighing about 168 grams requires 2650 liters of water. A large percentage of the cotton crops today are grown in areas that do not meet the rainfall requirement, therefore the water is obtained through irrigation. Water, however abundantly we use it, is not replaceable. The growth of cotton involves a lot of chemicals, such as herbicides, fertilizers, and insecticides. That same t-shirt that weighs about 168 grams needs 100 grams of fertilizer, 0.01 kilograms of pesticides, and 0.55 kilograms of fossil fuels. The demand for cotton clothes is having a large impact on the environment, and we can reduce this impact by promoting the growth of organic cotton. Help the environment by signing this petition!
