Well I can't believe it. I've found out that six flags aren’t allowing people with dreadlocks to apply for a job position. At first I thought it couldn't be true but unfortunately when I called six flags for myself they informed me that I wasn't eligible to apply because of their "grooming policies" not allowing hair locks. This is most definitely a problem. When they told me about their policy I couldn't help but feel discriminated against. Six flags are denying possibly well qualified people employment just because of a certain style that six flags considers "extreme and not professional." This is ridiculous! The style that I have in my hair and that many others have in theirs as well is definitely capable of being neat, well-kept and manicured. How is that not professional? When I explained to them that my hair was very well kept and naturally hair colored they still explained that "it's our policy, it's our policy" not giving me a detailed response on what was so unprofessional about my hair. The thing that's most unfair is that the style of locks is very common in a lot of cultures, even a symbol of one's religion. For example the black culture; our natural hair braids up, twists up, fro's up and locks up. Those are the common styles for natural hair and to have my natural state be called unprofessional or unsuitable for the work place is offensive. My point is this, locks comes in all shapes, styles and conditions. Some locks are purposefully crazy and free spirited, some are neat and more conventional, and neat locks should be considered just as professional as straightened hair or a short pixie cut. There is no way Six Flag's policy is fair or reasonable. If a woman can keep her locks neat and tidy then they should be acceptable for the work place. Six Flags Come on! Hire woman with locks, don't make us shave our heads or our identity.
