7 Geeta PatelI have been a strong supporter of Obama, since he entered the senate and this appointment must not be allowed to go through. There are other Indian-Americans who do not have ties to the same violent politics who Obama can pick.

12 jaishri abichandaniAs secular members of a democratic society, we cannot support women with an anti - muslim agenda - would you put some one who was a vocal active anti Semite in such an important position? there are plenty of other perfectly qualified South Asian women who do not have such a virulent agenda much more worthy of this job...
13 Debanuj DasGuptaDear President Elect Obama, I have worked tirelesly on your campaign in the swing state of Ohio, and completely overjoyed that we turend the state Blue and you are now our President Elect. As an immigrant from India, I have been inspired by your journey and inspiring call for change in America and the world. Unfortunately Sonal Shah does not reflect these ethics of respect, dignity, working across differences. She has active connections with several Hindu Right wing organizations in India and so deos her family. she has raised money in the Us from Indian americans in the name of service to the motherland, and that money has gone to aid hate against muslims in India. I donot believe that there should be space for a bigot in your transition team. While you might contend that her work in the US economic sector is fine and without doubt superb, i would like to remind you that we live ina world that is increasingly connected, and the fundamentalist Hindu groups raise the highest amount of money from corporate indian Americans in the NY-NJ-CT area and the beltway states. Sonal sha does not represent the change that you have called for. Please consider any other ethical, efficient woman of color in her place, who respects human rights and dignity for all.

15 AnonymousI have higher expectations of the Obama administration. I expect a more thorough background search of potential candidates for leadership positions.

17 Ayesha AhmadComing in on a platform of change and tolerance, it would be a pity to pick Sonal Shah who represents everything but.

32 Amita SwadhinI know that Sonal Shah has recently stated that she is against the politics of hatred and religious fundamentalism, but I believe she knew about the financial ties between both Ekal Vidyalaya and VHP-America and Hindutva forces involved in communalist activities in India. Her parents have been supportive of Hindu nationalist groups, even serving as leaders in a group called Overseas Friends of the BJP. She says that she was only involved in fundraising through the VHP-A for relief after the Gujarat earthquakes, but a scholarly report in 2002: http://www.stopfundinghate.org/sacw/ revealed how on average 80% of the monies raised by such organizations went to organizations in India linked to the RSS. She has not answered these charges clearly but has sidestepped her affiliation with VHP-A simply by stating she engaged in relief work fundraising. I would like her to, at the very least, release a statement showing clearly which organizations these funds went to support.

48 Ubi SheikhIt is a shame how a person as Sonal Shah who has so openly been a devise and hate propagating person be even considered when Obama came into power with the message of change. This is not the change we wanted.
