Please sign your name and acknowledge support for our legislative bill that we will be taking to the Florida State Capitol (Tallahassee). This bill will require all registered sex offenders to pay a $1.00 fee every time they register, these funds will then go in to a state pool that will be used to support programs targeting the prevention of child sexual abuse. Currently, state statues only intervene after a child has been victimized; first and foremost acting before the crime will save a child from a lifetime of emotional trauma, but secondly it will save the state millions of dollars due to a lowered amount of child sexual cases. The United States spends more than $24.3 billion dollars a year on child abuse, prevention programs are very cheap to maintain and will obviously save billions of dollars in savings every year! As an organization that was founded by a retired law enforcement detective and now has several active and retired law enforcement detectives on staff, we have come to the conclusion that tracking sex offenders is difficult enough, so to implement a "fee for registration" program that requires higher fees may result in more sex offenders absconding from registration.
