Name: Dhiman Chattopadhyay on Mar 1, 2007Comments: I fully support this cause. While student elections and elected bodies are part of the democratic process and this tradition at Presi shoudl continue, it's acrying shame that violence of the lowest order takes place year after year. Having been a student union office bearer in 1992-1993 I know exactly what happens. This is destryoing the college's image everywhere. Please put a stop to this mindless acts of violence or else there will be no difference between Presi and the UP assembly!!Flag

I would like to tell that a School or a college is a place to study and all these activities are really bad for the institute as well as the students.Flag

At least let's get back to the institution where the mandate is not to create hooligans...But a centre for academic excellence.Evoke the authorities in the State...there are many dormant alumni in the red-building; fondly called as the Writer's...Flag

Name: Arundhati on Mar 1, 2007Comments: I support this cause. Student politics is part of understanding the world and setting priorities for life, while also being an introduction to the democratic process that is India. However, violence has often marred the true nature of this politics taking it away from its true essence. Being part of the Presidency College Student Union myself from 91-94 I feel strongly that students should protest against this violence.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 1, 2007Comments: The poll related violence is grossly affecting the academic atmosphere in the college and the perception of the academic community about the college. The college has already lost its great academic standing. Unless this sort of voilence is stopped it would be known only for hooliganism.Flag

Name: Upal on Mar 1, 2007Comments: Consistent, organised violence is being carried out in Presidency by a state-backed machinery of the Students Federation of India. But the role of the college authorities could have been more assertive in this case. It's unfortunate that common students cannot enter college in this period surrounding the elections. For resumption of peace and an academic atmosphere in an illustrious institution like Presidency, it's imperative that this recurrent problem be treated as soon as possible in a democratic manner. Peace must be restored, but the college authorities should not sidestep their responsibility in facilitating a peace process.Flag
