We the students, teachers and alumni of Presidency College, Kolkata, are absolutely fed up of the student election related violence that has consumed the campus in the last few days. We strongly condemn the use of violent force and intimidation by any political parties or individuals. Rather than an exception, such poll related violence has become a norm in Presidency College over the last few years. This is greatly affecting not just normal academic student life, but also the perception of guardians and prospective students. Links to some of the media reports have been added on your right, read for yourself. It is a shame that the students and teachers have to put up with such unabashed disregard for the peaceful democratic process that should be. For this all of us are partly responsible. By putting our names on this petition, we the members of Presidency demand that the concerned members of the administration, teachers, student political parties, alumni and government officials strive their fullest to restore peace to campus and provide a safe, secure and democratic atmosphere to the students. We demand that the concerned people make it a top priority to try to tackle this yearly problem of poll related violence and maintain the highest standards of student life that Presidency College once stood for.
