In the matter of the Amma Center of New Mexico and Stephen and Cathryn Schmidt's application to Santa Fe County: We, the undersigned are opposed to Santa Fe County approval of the community service facility master plan/development plan for a new structure (approximately 16,000 sq ft) at 48 Stone Cabin Road, off the Old Santa Fe Trail, near the traditional community of Cañada de los Alamos. As concerned Santa Feans, New Mexicans and other concerned citizens, we foresee the following adverse consequences:
(1) A significant increase in the potential for forest fire. The proposed intensive use of this convention-sized building could quadruple the amount of people to the existing population. A forest fire in this area could quickly spread across thousands of acres, much of it populated.
(2) A radical change to this mountainous, rural, historical, multigenerational community, which would be distinctly out of character.
(3) A substantial increase in noise and traffic congestion. This traffic congestion would clog the only existing, established, fire entrance and exit route available to emergency vehicles and residents.
(4) A long-term, negative impact on the quality and quantity of the already strained local water supply.

I have submitted a formal request for information regarding the emergency access route impact study to the county planning department. We are currently preparing technical arguments to present at the next public hearing. Please watch for further instructions on how to submit comments directly to the Planning Commission.

The scale of this response is compelling evidence that our concerns regarding the facility master plan are widely shared. I am currently coordinating with legal counsel to formalize our objections into a written brief for the Santa Fe County land review board.

Too many people out there already. This is just gonna make it impossible to get anywhere safely
This area is way too small for that kind of construction. It is gonna be a disaster when more traffic shows up and block the roads.
Keep the trail the way it is. We dont need a massive building taking over the character of our neighborhood
leave the canyon alone. santa fe is losing all its charm because of stuff like this
So scary thinking about a fire in that narrow pass. How are emergency trucks even supposed to get through??
