Preserve EVERGREEN: Stop the Development!
Issue: Evergreen Community College District wants to develop the last 27 acres of land on the Evergreen College (EVC) Campus. The District purchased the land in 1967 for the express purpose of providing a nearby community college to the underserved areas of East San Jose, North East San Jose, and Evergreen. The 99-year land lease development ranges from retail to high-density housing (~500 apartment units). The development translates to an increase of 2000 people (4/family) and 1000 cars (2/family) in a very congested area of Evergreen (San Felipe and Yerba Buena).
The proposed development brings plenty of drawbacks to the Evergreen
community:
1. Adds to traffic congestion
2. Compounds school crowding: Elementary, Middle and High Schools
3. Restricts educational opportunities and future growth of Evergreen Valley College
4. Limits two of the many wonderful reasons to live in Evergreen: beautiful
views and open space
Please join us to stop the SJECCD's
proposed development. The district has quietly pushed this through their board
meetings so as not to engage the public and take into consideration public
input. We, the public believe the District and the process lack transparency.
1. Revenue raised is not guaranteed to go directly to the betterment of the Evergreen
Valley College students
2. There is no guantee this will be the last development effort. In fact, this development could be the 2nd of more to come
