Preserve the BSA's Exclusion of Open or Avowed Homosexuals

The homosexual community is seeking to change the policy of the Boy Scouts of America which currently excludes membership to individuals who are open or avowed homosexuals. It was in 2000 that the U.S. Supreme Court concluded that the organization is private, and it is allowed to bar homosexuals from being troop leaders. Please sign this petition to keep the current policy which is: "While the BSA does not proactively inquire about the sexual orientation of employees, volunteers, or members, we do not grant membership to individuals who are open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA."

2 years ago Comments: I was a Life Scout as a boy and now am a Scouter with two sons in Cub Scouts. Our family is committed to Scouting because of its commitment to character-building consistent with our moral values. Homosexuality is incompatible with the Scout Oath and Law, and should not be presented to impressionable young boys as a morally acceptable alternative lifestyle. As a private organization, BSA should stand firm on our 1st Amendment right to hold a moral viewpoint that differs from those of the gay rights lobby. BSA should not surrender its long-held moral principles in the face of a well-orchestrated corporate bullying campaign. Surrendering in the face of opposition by gay rights activists will cause BSA to lose more members than it would gain. A Scout is brave.
