If you love the Abyssinian breed, whether you are a breeder or just an admirer, we need your help and support! Our so far large and diverse worldwide gene pool already began to shrink as many new breeders are started with cats that should never be used in an Aby breeding program while seasoned and dedicated breeders quit their hobby one by one! To a large extent these cats and/or their ancestors all have their origins in one cattery whose breeder isn't much interested in the breed itself but rather in R&D (reproduction and distribution) and unfortunately started a hybrid program out of Abys and Somalis back in 1999. In the meantime a few other catteries joined in massively distributing these cats, so that the problem is not simply that of hybridization any more but also of reducing genetic diversity in our breed as a lot of new breeders do have cats with exactly the same background or nearly so! Where shall these new breeders turn to in the future? Please, help us in stopping...
