Name: Brian U on May 31, 2007Comments: This petition in my opinion and personal experience must be signed and delivered. When our ultrasound uncovered a soft marker for down syndrome the technician and Dr. made it sound as if my wife was carrying a dead baby. Our daughter is 3 now and full of life. GET THIS PASSED NOW!!!Flag

Name: Valerie on May 31, 2007Comments: I agree. When I was told my daughter had Down Syndrome prenatally, my doctor told me she would be a burden on myself as well as my children. He said I would never have a life & my daughter, who was 3 at the time, would hate her as well as me. I was never given any resources or contact to find out more information to give me an informed decision. The kicker was that he missed her heart defect & he was suppossedly "the best" in the area in terms of high risk pregnancies.Flag

Name: Nicole T Maher on May 31, 2007Comments: As a community we fully realize that prenatal diagnoses are more often than not given in a very negative way. Parents are at a very emotional time and they need to be given the news in a factual and accurate way. Please ensure that the medical community is held responsible for this important time in parents' lives. Our country deserves this. Nicole T. MaherFlag

Name: JENNIFER JONES on May 31, 2007Comments: I am the proud mother of a 6 year old daughter with down syndrome. We were unawre of her diagnosis until after she was born. Like you, we were given no information about what to do next. I went home with this beautiful premature child needing therapy and not knowing what to do next, who to call or what to ask for. My doctor was so shocked by my daughter that he literally threw her on my chest and later apologized the next day. A counselor for the hospital met VERY briefly with me on the discharge date but only asked if I had close family in the area, never offered any info. My daughter had to spend time in the nicu where the nurses were wonderful but not to hopeful or not to discouraging either just afraid to offer any thought on how long she would be there and what problems she would face in the days she spent there. I strongly agree that parents and their chilren deserve better sevice, support and information. At that moment we are flooded with an array of emotions, guilt and confusion and it would be of tremendous help to be better informed and possibly have someone who has been in our shoes to talk to and answer questions we have to help us find where to begin our search for the help and support our children and ourselves as parents will definately need! I strongly agree with this petition and wil send it to all I know.Flag

Name: Judith M. Mascolo, M.D. on May 31, 2007Comments: I am the mother of 7 year-old Christina Anne with Down Syndrome, as well as a Family Physician. When I was given the prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome I faced the pressure to abort from my doctors, partners in practice and even a few family members. I have also seen first hand how doctors fail to inform families about the reality of Down Syndrome today and pressure families to abort the baby. I have now changed my practice of medicine to a completely pro-life practice.Flag

Name: Jennifer Campbell on May 31, 2007Comments: please push through this bill!!! I am mom to a beautiful 3 year old boy who happens to have Down Syndrome. Never in my wildest dreams can I imagine life without him now...and I thank God that I have him. I am a woman who considers herself Pro-Choice - but I was also smart enough not to take the advice of a guy who only delivers babies as to how my son would or would not be. It didn't take much research at all to figure how much potential his life would hold - for both us as well as our community.Flag
