REAL ESTATE TAX RATE REDUCTION

The outrageous wasteful spending by Portsmouth city government needs to stop now! Taxes and fees are out of control. Citizens have endured a 57% increase in residential tax burden during the past 4 years. We the undersigned, respectfully request that the real estate tax rate be set at $1.16.

7 years ago Comments: Portsmouth was formed and existed as a small family friendly city. Portsmouth was unique because it was an economical and safe place to live with a sense of community. Today, there is a cadre' of business and political entities whose vision of Portsmouth no longer includes our elderly and young working families as core assets of our city. Our city is being stolen from us by the relentless real estate and other tax burdens we have experienced over the past 6 years. Our elderly are being driven from their homes of decades in their vision of progress. Young families are forced to live in "affordable" beehive housing or leave our city. These "spend and tax visionaries" are robbing us of our heritage and our future. 20% of our registered voters participated in the 2008 elections. The citizens of this city, young and old, must overcome its apathy and act now or the "community" of Portsmouth we have known as our heritage will cease to exist. Portsmouth belongs to its citizens not the cadre'
