Comments: It is an absolute disgrace that this practise is allowed to go on. Do you poeple not understand the ramifications caused by this "professional". The damage that is currently being done to our fishery will reach un-repairable if this practise is allowed to continue. Matt Urzia Bar Crusher Boats National Sales Manager

Comments: Deffinately opposed to gill netting anywhere in Victoria ,especially areas frequented by tax paying recreational anglers that bring so much more money to a town than 1 gill netter

Comments: Portland Bay is a beautiful and pristine peice of coastline that i have enjoyed for over 10 years . I choose to spend my x-mas with my family holidaying in portland , exploring the local coast and teaching my kids to fish. If this netting were to disrupt the local recreational fishing we would be forced to search elsewhere to spend our time and money. Surely these pro fisherman should be made to fish well offshore so that the average family fishing still has a chance to catch an occasional prize fish.

Comments: Unbelievable that they would do this so close to town. Im sure if lots of tourists knew this that it would have a direct affect on the number of visitors to the town.

Comments: This 1 gill-netter is depleting stock for all the regular fishos that fish this area for recreation. We pay our licence/launching fees and want the opportunity to catch fish when we venture out. Send him out deeper - same for anyone depleting stocks in any fishery around Victoria. Ron

Comments: we hold a family fishing compition for the past 4 years in the off peak season of the year, since then we have seen the sizes as well as the amount of fish drop. we are all avid recreational fishermen, some have boats others fish from the lee breakwall, we enjoy this great past time but over these few years we are more inclined to change our place of where we hold our compition due to the lack of fish. i speak for my family and we agree gillnetting should be out lawed full stop.

Comments: its a joke that this is allowed just look at port philip bay since they stoped the scallop boats so they need to learn by the mistakes they have made in the past and learn from them, the economy down there will suffer when the fisherman arn,t coming to chase kingfish in the summer.
