We the undersigned, call on all the Political Parties and independent candidates of Local, National, and European elections to show unity for the LGBT community on this island by agreeing and adhering to a Anti-homophobia Pact during their campaigns.
We believe that it is a fundamental Human Right for every individual to be allowed express their love for a partner, no matter what gender their partner may be.
We call on all our public representatives to refrain from using, or supporting any homophobic material etc in their campaigns and to publicly denounce any individuals who use homophobia for personal or political gain.
We recognize that everyone is entitled to their opinion with regards the gay community, but no individual or organisation has the right to use homophobia as a tool for incitement of hatred.
We ask that our politicians be mindful of the pain many LGBT individuals suffer as a result of this activity and that no group, individual or political party has the right to alienate any minority in a free society.
We furthermore request that the Political Parties liaise and consult the LGBT Community with regards the content of such a Pact. |

The Petition was started by Institute of Technology Sligos' Rainbow Society.
This LGBT Society has been in existence for two years and has been a vocal champion of LGBT rights both on campus and in the local community
