As Temple students, there are a lot of issues facing us. Tuition is rising, housing is limited, and classes fill quickly. Shouldn't we at least be able to take the classes that we want to take Dr. Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon has been teaching Poetry as Performance for over eight years at Temple University. This class is the only one of its kind taught in the eastern quadrant of the United States. Spring of 2009, the class was not offered for the first time in its eight-year run. Students voiced disapproval and were promised that the class will return in Fall of 2009. Registration for Fall 2009 has begun--this class is not being offered. How long will we as Temple students sit idly by, as the classes we want, and the experience we so drastically need, is snatched from under us In signing this petition, you make the loud statement that your voice will be heard, and that EVERYTHING; every decision that's made; every class that's canceled; every rise in tuition, your voice is heard!!

Malaika Carpenter, United States5 years ago Comments: As a recent alumni of Temple University, I feel classes like Poetry as Performance are necessary for preserving art in education as well as maintaining an outlet for creative expression for students. I urge the university to continue this course and nuture the artistic expression of its students.
