we actually pulled it off and the compensation package is finally happening. i still cant believe we got them to take responsibility after they spent so long ignoring us. thank you for sticking with this when everyone else told us we were just wasting our time.

In July 2012 the Pilot Training College (PTC) based in Waterford, but with many students training in Florida, collapsed leaving some 350 students and their sponsors, owed some €5m,stranded in the middle of their training, training funded mostly by personal borrowing,that costs close to €100,000.Some were owed close to€70,000 including a family in Dublin West.The liquidation of PTC is not expected to result in any payments to these students.
PTC was approved as a flight training organisation by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA),a state body, as recently as Autumn 2011. Whilst the IAA says it is not a consumer protection body it is supposed to ensure that there is adequate funding to complete the required training. This it clearly failed to do including approving PTC when it's financial future was already extremely problematic.
The response of Official Ireland has been to completely deny any responsibility for the dreadful situation faced by all these ambitious and hopeful trainee pilots. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar paid for flights home from Florida for those stranded there then denied any further role. The IAA denied legal responsibility. The Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communication promised a forensic enquiry but then reneged on its promise in private.

The IAA knew of the perilous financial situation of PTC, yet still gave approval to continue training, and taking course fees from students. They need to accept responsibility for this oversight, and provide help and compensation for students.
This has been devasting not only for all the family's concerned but the young men who thought this massive financial commitment would secure their future once through their training, just can't imagine how crushed these guys must be feeling, they deserve a second chance....
Our children placed themselves in the hands of PTC towards this purpose in the knowledge that it was regulated and approved by the Irish Authorities. We trusted this official approval from fellow EU state for a facility that advertised itself to all citizens within the EU.
Our nephew was one of those trainee pilots who suffered a serious financial loss from this failure by the relevant licencing authority to properly audit the accounts of the company. He, and the others, should be compensated out of public funds.
Brian and Martina, do you know if there has there been a group formed to support the trainee pilots & their families? My son is one of those unfortunate trainees. I would be interested in connecting with other parents effected by this. Bernadette.

We were not only robbed of our life savings, but our son was robbed of his of his future. This is a disgrace and a shame on the Irish Government who obliviously have no conscience or commitment to the people they claim to represent.
