Dear Minister: We the undersigned present this petition to urge you to support Bill C-279; the Transgender Rights Bill. With the constant threats of harassment and violence that the trans community faces upon a daily basis, it cannot be stressed enough the importance of supporting such a critical piece of human rights legislation. While it is known that the majority of your party previously voted against this bill in its first incarnation as C-389, we are hoping that your individual vote this time will reflect a strong personal commitment towards protecting one of the most marginalized groups of Canadians in our country. A vote in support of C-279 is not a vote involving politics, but rather simply one in support of the rights and dignities of Canadians. We ask for your support in ensuring that all Canadian citizens receive adequate and equal protections by supporting this legislation.
