Dear Governor Cuomo,

I am a parent at Academy of the City Charter School, located in Woodside, Queens. We service an incredibly diverse student population in a privately owned location. Our school is thriving due to the hard work and passion of the administration, teachers and parents alike. And while we now have the space for art, science, music, physical education, and an exceptional English Language Learning program, operating in a private location comes with a cost. And our students and faculty are paying that price.

A portion of the funding received for each student by the state goes to pay rent, building maintenance, and construction costs, which means less money for vital school programs and for our UFT staff.

We ask that you 1.)support a restoration of the charter school funding formula and 2.)provide facilities relief for charter schools still located in private space.

Please stop treating our children like second-class citizens. We are tax payers, parents and community builders, invested in providing our children with the best public school education possible.
