“Stars Earn Stripes” is a NBC television show that glorifies, trivializes, and sanitizes combat war for pure entertainment value.
A veteran's organization and nine (9) Nobel Peace Laureates are calling for NBC to immediately cease airing this show.
Why? Because as we have countless Veterans who are suffering from physical and emotional wounds as a result from combat war. in addition, for the families who have severely disabled family members who endure unimaginable hardships as a result of their war experience. This show is a slap in the face to these real life men and women of our Armed Forces and their families and friends.
This show makes war a game, and war is anything but a game. In real war there are no prizes only the hope that you survive to come home to one's family and friends. Men and women in combat face situations that are real, life threatening, and they do it for our freedom as a nation, not for a game show prize.
This is a terrible insult to our Veterans and our active duty Armed Forces.
Retired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu said it best in his open letter to NBC's Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt dated Aug 13, 2012:
"It is our belief that this program pays homage to no one anywhere and continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence.”
"Real war is down in the dirt deadly. People — military and civilians — die in ways that are anything but entertaining," the letter added.
“The signatories, who all won their Nobel prizes for contributions aimed at ending violence, called on NBC to "stop airing this program."”

In addition, please read this article from Veteran's group, “Swords to Plowshares.”
“Swords to Plowshares is a community-based non-profit that helps veterans deal with the physical, psychological and economic traumas they deal with coming back from war and trying to transition back into the civilian world.”
Amy N. Fairweather, Director of Policy for Swords to Plowshares, told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview regarding the controversial show:
“The real warriors who go out there and come home from war don’t win a reality prize. They live with the consequences of being exposed to the dangerous elements they survived.”
Join me and other people who respect our men and women of the Armed Forces and the Veterans who have sacrificed for our freedom by signing this petition to call for the end of making war an entertainment game show. We would like “Stars Earn Stripes” cancelled immediately. I will also send the completed petition to Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
