The current major local publication for San Antonio, Texas has existed since 1865. A co-newspaper, the San Antonio Light, existed until 1992. The Light provided insightful, well-written, thought-out, and informative news articles. However, since the Light went out (pun intended) the current news outlet has dominated local San Antonio news. Because of this, the quality of the writing and editing; the increasing lack of real, informative hardcore news; and the incessant "clickbait" slideshow articles are infuriating readers and making San Antonio look like a laughingstock. Furthermore, the increase of news not related to San Antonio (increasing numbers of articles from Houston) and the ever intrusive feel of a tabloid make it look, sound and read more like a less-than-high school publication. The local publication is increasingly becoming a liability to its publishing company.
Therefore, we the news-loving and news-hungry populace of the greater San Antonio area are asking for the return of the publication of the San Antonio Light. Also, the major publication's *real* news has been moved to their paid site. We the readers of San Antonio respectfully request that the former owners and editors of the SA Light please bring back that old, faithful publication and for the current major publication to stop trying to be like a tabloid newspaper and more of a respected news organization. Continuous and oftentimes silly slideshows, worthless polls, and endless shameless promotion of local businesses in the form of "free advertising" in news "articles" only cheapen the content of the major publication.
Whereas, we the public of San Antonio, having missed the beloved San Antonio Light for unbiased, intelligent and relevant news reporting, hereby start this petition to ask the former publisher(s) of the Light to restart publishing the Light with any staff who will promise to report only hard news without silly and condescending slideshows which are nothing more than clickbait to gain advertising dollars and to promote the decline of readership intelligence; without "free advertising" by mentioning the business in an article or otherwise giving the look and feel of something other than a NEWSpaper, even if it is online. The Light should not be influenced by its advertisers, nor should it be condescending to the reader. It should be informative, insightful, and provide worthwhile discussion without having to descend into the realm of tabloid journalism. It should also feature an EDITABLE comments section that should be moderated without prejudice, but with temperance for all viewpoints.
