This petition and its accompanying journey to see the film THE PLAGUE released as it was intended still has a long way to go. Sony and Sony Screen Gems seem to have no interest in releasing this cut of the film to date. I have spoken with Scott Shooman who acquired the distribution rights for the film. While he was very clear that he did not believe it would be financially worthwhile for Sony to release the Writers & Director's Cut of the film, he was agreeable to the notion of selling us the distribution rights. For the mere sum of $1 million. This was then and still remains an impossibility. And I believe Mr. Shooman was well aware of that when he made this most "generous" offer.
So, at this point in time, the only chance we have of getting the rights to distribute the film as it was intended is to either raise $1 million, or possibly have something that is so valuable to Sony that a trade can be made, or to get so many signatures here that Sony sees dollar signs. All are possibilities. However, if $1 million were raised, I would prefer buying the film outright from the film's actual owners (Sony only has distribution rights, not ownership).
I'll keep you posted as changes occur. In the meantime, getting everyone you know and everyone THEY know to sign this petition is the first and best way to make this happen. I promise I will not stop until it is done.
