California's current budget crisis has been trickling down to local community services, including our local La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District. As a cost-saving measure, the district management has decided to reduce the Pescadero High School Principal's position to part-time. Two years ago, a decision was made to expand the high school from grades 9-12 to its current configuration of grades 7-12. While we have had a part-time principal in the past, this is no longer acceptable with the current school demographics. This larger body of students being served, along with increased state imposed legislation makes has turned the Principal's job into a bigger job than in the past. Additionally, two veteran teachers are retiring. To serve our school community properly, we feel that it is in the best interest of students to have a full-time Principal at Pescadero High School. We, the undersigned, want to the school board and district administration to make this a priority as budgets are being finalized for next year.
