We want the default version of Captcha in phpBB3 replaced with (or at least given the option to be) with reCaptcha for the following reasons: 1) It helps the online commmunity 2) It's easier to fix when a method to solve it automatedly is found and 3) It prevents spam very well.

Too many bots getting through the current default settings. Recaptcha is way more reliable for keeping the junk out.

YES PLEASE. cleaning up spam accounts is a full time job at this point.
