Danae Failsnae3@hotmail.comIt is very irresponsible, and setting a bad example to the students to thoughtlessly dispose of all school waste without recycling the many items that could be.

Ruthie MundellRuthie@CommunityForklift.comAs a county taxpayer, I'm shocked that this isn't being done already. Recycling could save the school system a lot of money if done correctly! Cans, at the very least, are effortless to deal with. In my high school way out in the sticks (down in St. Mary's County), they started recycling cans at least 25 years ago. The school put recycling bins next to every trash can, then student clubs were assigned to each bin. The clubs collected the cans each week, took them to the recycler, and used the money to adopt needy families at Christmas. The whole student body bought into it because we had competitions to see how much money each club could raise. Made sense for the environment and the school budget - and gave us a valuable education in being thrifty and serving others. Thanks, Ruthie Mundell Outreach Director at Community Forklift (the Building Materials Thrift Store)

Kathie Hiattkhiatt311@comcast.netAs a resident of PG county, I'm stunned that the schools do not have a recycling program. I certainly hope this oversight is corrected.
Lara Oerterlarabishop4@hotmail.comThis is embarrassing. How could there not be a recycling program in the school system. What is this teaching our kids?

Rita Pascaleritapascale@hotmail.comI teach at a high school, and the amount of waste that is really recyclable is HUGE. Please put something in place to recapture some of these resources rather than literally throwing them away.
stuart mawlersmawler@gmail.comi am a resident of prince george's county and heartily support this petition. in addition, i am ashamed of our county and the fact that we even need to have this petition. all government agencies at the local, state, and national level need to lead by example in recycling, waste reduction, and green practices.

Irene Marshirene36@closecall.comIt is absolutely essential that recycling be done everywhere, homes, schools, businesses, organizations, etc. It is no longer an option to just buy and toss in view of out deteriorating environment, toxic materials, and wastefulness.
Bill Updikeupdikew@yahoo.comHow embarrassing that PG County Schools don't have recycling! I didn't know and I am outraged. It makes us seem like a backwards county, and does not help our public perception. How can we expect our children to lead us into a new green century if we don't even have the leadership to do the bare minimum and recycle in our schools.

Arletta Gustafsonarlettag@comcast.netI find it unbelievable that an institution that is supposed to be teaching our youth how to be upstanding and productive citizens doesn't have a basic recycling program. Recycling should not only be instituted at Northwestern but all schools in the county. This includes elementary, middle, and high schools.

Dwight Holmesdwightrholmes@gmail.comSchools and students should be at the forefront of environmental awareness *and* action. Kudos to the students for this petition drive!
Christopher Nieblingchristopherniebling@gmail.comThis cannot be optional, we must teach students how vital recycling is to our environment and way of life.
Moore Familyfourmoores1@verizon.netThis is an appalling waste that should be corrected immediately.
Dr Patricia Stephensonseekingpatricia@netscape.netIt is incredibly important for the EDUCATION of children to teach recycling, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. There are many model programs in Maryland counties. PG County doesn't have to look far for technical assistance on this.
Michelle Hermansonmmhonline@earthlink.netI'm sure there are easy and cost effective solutions for recycling the paper generated at the schools.

Christine Hinojosahinojosa@umd.eduGreat idea--glad to hear you are working toward this.
Dianne Russellchris-di@comcast.netOur schools can model for students and the community how our resouces can be best used. Recycling is clearly an important part of waste reduction and should be instituted as soon as possible. Energy use in the schools can be next!
