To provide additional protection to drivers especially motorcyclist, from being thrown over the wall in the event that an accident may occur. If added protection such as a 6ft chain link fence were to be added on top of the barrier wall, this would prevent anyone from going over. In the last few months 2 motorcyclists have died as a result of this. One being, Randy Lee Glass, a 23 yr. old who had everything going for him, a new wife and a baby on the way. Only that was taken away due to an accident on a flyover in Jacksonville, Florida. He was thrown over the wall almost 50 feet after his motorcycle crashed. Had changes been made prior to this, other fatalities like Randy’s would have been preventable. I'm pushing for a change in the way the FDOT builds these flyovers. If you‘re going to build something with extreme height then extra precautions need to be taken to protect our drivers. If they say the wall height meets “Industry Standards” then I say you need to raise your standards when building the flyovers, even if it protects one life it was worth it!
