Protect Buyers' Rights of Immovable Properties in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)


Dear President Talat,

On behalf of all property buyers in TRNC, we the undersigned respectfully request the TRNC administration to modify the law known as the “ Sale of Land (Specific Performance) Law” articulated in Chapter 232, in order to give everyone the right to protect their purchase of immovable properties and the eventual receipt of their Title Deeds.

Specifically, we urge that the stipulated time limit of two months to request for a court order be lifted and replaced with a time limit of at least six years to allow for the development to be completed and where necessary for Permission to Buy a Property from the Council of Ministers. Furthermore, we seek the protection from the TRNC administration through a change in this law to allow for the registration of all existing Sale Agreements.

Time is of the essence. We ask that you champion our cause and act swiftly to bring about the above changes into law without delay and apply to all pending sales of immovable properties.

We believe that the TRNC administration is just and extends its protection to all who require it. It is with this belief that we feel confident that the TRNC administration will modify this outdated law with one that is fair and reflective of modern democratic societies.
